Thanksgiving Day : What are the foods we shouldn't miss?

Thanksgiving Day Foods

Traditionally Thanksgiving day is a celebration to give thanks for a bountiful harvest. In America, Thanksgiving is celebrated every fourth Thursday of November. This year it will be on the 25th of November.
Traditional Thanksgiving feasts vary of course by regions and family traditions, but some common foods across the country are the following:

TURKEY – The most common, most popular Thanksgiving dish, turkey, is the main event for most Americans. The bigger the better!

STUFFING AND DRESSING – A delicious roasted turkey is not complete without stuffing and dressing. Some of the more common dressings for turkey are: Classic Bread Stuffing, Sausage Dressing, Oyster Dressing and Wild Rice Stuffing, just to name a few!

CRANBERRY SAUCE – It is a tradition to have Cranberry Sauce during Thanksgiving because it is believed that it was part of the very first Thanksgiving celebration.

MASHED POTATOES – The ultimate turkey side kick, mashed potatoes make the meal!

VEGETABLES – When it comes to the veggies there are many options, recipes, and regional preferences. This year, why don’t you try some peas, butterbeans, squash, green bean casserole, salads, corn, or pumpkin?

PIE – And then there’s the PIE! Pumpkin Pie and Pecan Pie are among the most popular desserts of Thanksgiving. These dishes are loved across the country.

Enjoy these meals and most of all enjoy a day of Giving Thanks! Happy Thanksgiving!

November 5, 2010:

The Trimble Court Artisans proudly bring you WEAVINGS by Chris Switzer. Perfect for the winter weather, fiber artist Chris Switzer creates hand-woven scarves using alpaca yarn in an array of colors, including metallic, and the supple textures of mohair and silk. Chris is from nearby Estes Park, and he also wrote a book about weaving entitled “Chris Switzer's Third Edition (2005) of the fine book on spinning and weaving Llama, Alpaca, and Paco-Vicuña fiber.”

November 11 – 27, 2010:

Stephen J. Allen Photography Exhibit: Memories of My Ancestors. Studio artist Stephen J. Allen will be sharing his most memorable photographs of Scotland from his trip in 2009. Other than the typical images of Scotland of castles and men in kilts, Allen found the textures of the standing stones, fishing boats and other scenes most fascinating.

The Radon(Rn) Blues

What is a Radon?

Radon is a radioactive, colorless, odorless, naturally occurring gas from the decay of uranium. It is considered a health hazard because of it’s radioactivity.

Radon has been linked to many diseases, and environmental experts caution that it should be tested. Remember that if radon gas is detected, it can usually be removed at a relatively low cost with simple ventilation systems.

Radon gas can be a worry for homeowners. This naturally occurring substance has been found in homes throughout the country. It is odorless, colorless and undetectable without sophisticated testing.

If you are concerned about radon in your home, you can have it tested. You can also contact your nearest branch of the Environmental Protection Agency for information about how to find a reputable company qualified to perform the tests.

If you are buying a new home in an area where radon has been a problem, you might consider including a radon test as part of the structural contingency clause. And if you are planning to sell your home, you can test it for radon before placing it on the market. If there is no problem, your fears will be put to rest, and even if radon is detected, it is neither difficult nor costly to correct.

Garden and Landscape Features

Do you have a garden? Does it actually look like a garden where you can relax, smell the fresh air and enjoy the flowers? If not, here are some tips on how you can start to make your garden your own work of art. But first let us define some of the terms we will use.

Basic Terms:
  • A garden is a space to plant, grow and cultivate your favorite plants and flowers. It’s usually outdoors, and in our modern world some gardens can be found on rooftops.
  • Landscaping is modifying the features of your yard with plants, structures, lights, and landforms or land elevation. Here’s an example of before and after landscaping:

AFTER

Landscaping Basics:

The key factor to consider in designing and landscaping is the usability of your space.
  • Do you have vehicles that need to be stored in or near the space?
  • Do you have pets or children that will want to play in the garden?
  • How much lighting do you want in the garden?
  • What are the parts of your garden that you most want to highlight?
These are some of the things you need to consider before deciding on what flowers or what structures you want to include. Enjoy creating your gardening work of art!
