Plan ahead and know what it takes for you to buy your own home for the first time.

KNOW WHERE YOU WANT TO LIVE. The possibilities are endless and knowing where to settle is a big decision to make taking into consideration business and personal opportunities, chances are you'll one day live in another city or even another state.

ASK ADVICE FROM FAMILY & FRIENDS WITH CONNECTIONS. Even better if they are in the real estate business to give you good information about the cost of housing in the area where you want to live and what it takes to buy a home.

RESEARCH AND READ UP.Do your homework and find as much information as you can on financial management, real estate and buying a home. Take notes. Make a financial plan for yourself.

ESTABLISH / MAINTAIN GOOD CREDIT HABITS & HISTORY.Being responsible and having a good track record make approvals easier and faster.  Invest on getting a credit card using it responsibly. Apply for an automobile loan and pay on time every month. If you're renting, put your own name on the lease and the utility bills and make sure the rent and the bills are paid every month.

SAVE EARLY FOR A DOWN PAYMENT & CLOSING COSTS. Saving early is the most important and because you get the advantage of compounding interest and have a longer period of time to grow your investments. Start saving early and open a savings account or a stock brokerage investment account. Don't forget to make regular deposits.

The Lauren Project Silent Auction and Light Supper Event in Windsor Colorado

The Lauren Project Silent Auction and Light Supper Event

You’re invited to The Lauren Project’s Silent Auction and Light Supper Event, featuring entertainment from local professional jazz musicians and chefs Cathy Broida and Andrew Maxwell’s delectable chilli supper. Donations for the meal will be requested.

Silent auction items include: a Colorado Eagles hockey jersey and tickets, golf at Pelican Lakes, a quilt made especially for the event, a week in Breckenridge for two over the Fourth of July in 2011, professional photography instruction, hand-painted silk scarf, pottery, framed photography, various gift certificates at merchants in Windsor, and much more! And to make things even better, an anonymous donor has offered to match the first $5,000 raised at this event.

This is the very first event held by The Lauren Project. This project was created in memory of 2004 Windsor High School graduate Lauren Johnson, who died tragically from carbon monoxide poisoning on Jan 5, 2009.  Lauren was pursuing a master's degree at the Joseph Korbel School of International Studies in Denver, and was dedicated to international human rights.

The Lauren Project, a 501(c)3 organization, aims to provide grants for young people ages 19-35 to do international volunteer mission work, and also supports projects and educational events on the subject of carbon monoxide safety.

The event will be held on October 2nd, from 5:30-8 p.m., at the Pelican Lakes Clubhouse, 1600 Pelican Lakes Point in Windsor.  For more details go to www.laurensproject.org.

This I believe: That every man, woman, and child has the right to opportunity: the opportunity for freedom, the opportunity for education, the opportunity for health care, and the opportunity to enjoy their lives peacefully.”
