Garden and Landscape Features

Do you have a garden? Does it actually look like a garden where you can relax, smell the fresh air and enjoy the flowers? If not, here are some tips on how you can start to make your garden your own work of art. But first let us define some of the terms we will use.

Basic Terms:
  • A garden is a space to plant, grow and cultivate your favorite plants and flowers. It’s usually outdoors, and in our modern world some gardens can be found on rooftops.
  • Landscaping is modifying the features of your yard with plants, structures, lights, and landforms or land elevation. Here’s an example of before and after landscaping:

AFTER

Landscaping Basics:

The key factor to consider in designing and landscaping is the usability of your space.
  • Do you have vehicles that need to be stored in or near the space?
  • Do you have pets or children that will want to play in the garden?
  • How much lighting do you want in the garden?
  • What are the parts of your garden that you most want to highlight?
These are some of the things you need to consider before deciding on what flowers or what structures you want to include. Enjoy creating your gardening work of art!
